Happy St Patrick’s Day !!

And No, Erin go Bragh does NOT mean Happy St. Patrick’s day .. and it’s not a phrase from the annoying Gen Z people that call everyone “BRUH”

It means “Ireland Forever” (Erin from Eire, the Irish word for Ireland ..and go bragh meaning, “until the end of time”.. Pronounced AIR-in-go-brah)

Now, the “American-ized version” of “Erin Go Bra-Less” means something completely different ..

If you’re planning on partying and being Irish for the day … BE CAREFUL !! It’s amateur night.. All the people that drink twice a year are out.. So, UBER .. Personally, I stay in and hide..

and.. As long as we’re doing “Education” today ..

I’ve been asked by many about the whole “Continuing Resolution” process and why the same mess keeps happening regardless of which party is in control. .. So.. as briefly as possible (yes, its a LONG story.. this is a massive simplification)..

Simple majorities in the House and Senate could pass the 12 annual “Appropriations Bills” (ie “The Budget”). But, because of the Senate “filibuster” process .. Either party can filibuster a bill, which requires a 3/5’s vote to end. That’s 60 votes. Which is a mess.. and a HUGE mess if you have to do it for 12 different Bills...That hasn’t happened since 1997.

What happens is they bundle all 12 into an “Omnibus Spending Bill” to just continue the spending framework the way it was… with, of course, tweaks that the party in power wants.. Sometimes the tweaks are large.

The minority party tries to negotiate SOME stuff they want into the Continuing Resolution and plays chicken with a “government shutdown”. Each tries to blame the other side for the looming shutdown. .. In this case, the Democrats and Schumer had no luck .. Many Dems are mad at Schumer for “caving”. But Schumer thought the “shutdown” option would be giving Trump BIGGER wins and more power.

To be clear, Schumer did NOT vote for the CR. Schumer voted to stop using Senate procedure hi-jinks. He declined to filibuster which in turn allows a vote on the CR. When the filibuster ends the vote takes place and needs only 51 votes. Which the Republicans easily had.

YEMEN: The US bombed the Houthi terrorists in Yemen in response to repeated Yemeni attacks on ships. The US says they will continue bombing raids until the attacks on ships end..

The Houthis have carried out more than 100 attacks on ships since November 2023 and have sunk two vessels, seized another and killed at least four aboard the ships.

In response, the Houthis said they launched 18 missiles and a drone at the “aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman and its accompanying warships” in the Red Sea, then hours later claimed to have fired a second round… There was no immediate comment on the record from the United States about the Houthis’ claimed attacks.

Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi said on Sunday that his militants would target U.S. ships in the Red Sea as long as the U.S. continues its attacks on Yemen. "If they continue their aggression, we will continue the escalation," he said in a televised speech.

Is he out of his mind? Iran backs the Houthi rebels (although Iran denies it) but the US will turn Sanaa, Yemen (and other cities) into a parking lot if Yemen doesn’t stop ..

TORNADOES:

At least 40 people have died across Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Alabama and Mississippi as powerful storm systems swept through the Midwest and the South.

According to preliminary reports, at least 557 storms were reported Friday and 135 were reported yesterday. At least 32 of Friday's storms and 34 of yesterday's storms were tornadoes, per reports.

The storms have caused deaths linked to wildfires in Oklahoma, where over 100 people were injured, injured dozens in Arkansas and left hundreds of thousands of customers without power.

MINNESOTA: Here is a “wow” .. and a sign of how dangerous and bad for America this whole, “If the Dems say it the GOP has to oppose it.. and if the GOP says it the DEMS have to oppose it”

The Minnesota House voted late last week on a Bill. This Bill said that if a doctor was performing an abortion and for some reason the baby was born alive, the doctor could not kill it and had to perform “life saving care”.

The Bill did not pass. Every Democrat voted against it. .. WOW..

and..

CANADA: Mark Carney has been sworn in as Canada’s prime minister, succeeding Justin Trudeau. Carney, a former central banker who has never held public office in Canada, is stepping in to confront the challenges facing the country, including leading the Liberal Party into an election to be held later this year.

This is bad news for Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party. Poilievre was a virtual Shoe-in to be PM after the elections in October (or sooner).. Trudeau had become wildly unpopular. Carney is WAY smarter than Trudeau and voters that were looking for “change” might see Carney as change from Trudeau.

I still think Poilievre and the Conservative party win .. But, it just got A LOT harder..

IN DA SWAMP:

AUTO-PEN: There is an “automatic signature device” called “auto-pen” .. It’s been used by Presidents since Harry Truman.. But, mostly for letter to constituents, etc..

Autopen HAS occasionally been used to sign Legislation… Obama used it to sign an extension of the US Patriot Act in 2011 while he was away at a G-8 Summit. George W. Bush had his DOJ investigate if it was “legal” to use it to sign Legislation and they determined it was.. although he didn’t use it ..

It has come out that President Biden used the auto-pen .. A LOT ..

This has led to controversy over what he signed.. what was auto-penned .. and given his mental state.. were things signed with auto-pen by OTHER people on his behalf.. Maybe things he didn’t even know about ..

Well, President Trump is “entering the argument” ..

“The ‘Pardons’ that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because of the fact that they were done by Autopen,” Trump posted on Truth Social this morning.

“In other words, Joe Biden did not sign them but, more importantly, he did not know anything about them!” he said…

Hmmmm.. This is ANOTHER one that will be in courts for a while ..

Personally, I believe auto-pen should be used to sign letter to third graders and any “Official Acts” like Legislation or Executive Orders should be personally signed by the President..

RUSSIA: President Donald Trump said he plans to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday and discuss ending the war in Ukraine, after positive talks between US and Russian officials in Moscow.

“We want to see if we can bring that war to an end,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One during a late flight back to the Washington area from Florida. “Maybe we can, maybe we can’t, but I think we have a very good chance.

TURN BACK? A planeload of Venezuelan gang members that were illegally in the USA have been placed in prison in El Salvador. This is the supermax prison that El Salvador put a host of gang people in (and it worked.. Crime dropped like crazy) …

The deportations came just hours after US District Judge James Boasberg temporarily blocked the Trump administration from invoking the 18th century Alien Enemies Act to swiftly boot the gangbangers from the country without a formal hearing.

Two flights to El Salvador were in the air when the order came down, and the Trump administration decided the ruling did not apply because the planes were “outside US airspace”

Hmmm.. Is that a thing? .. Can a US plane (or the people directing it - i.e. The President) ignore a US Court ruling when a plane leaves US Airspace? .. That will probably make it’s way to a Supreme Court ruling..
